Ball4Good Advisor and Dorman Head JV Basketball Coach, Charles Blue has offered to be a referee during the upcoming Ball4Good Celebrity Basketball Game. He will be joined by former Spartanburg Day Middle School Coach – Joseph Gray. The game is slated for July 10th at Spartanburg Day School.

The Ball4Good Celebrity Basketball Game will be held Sunday, July 10th, 2022, at Spartanburg Day School. This event will feature Spartanburg community leaders and residents playing in an action-packed basketball game to raise money for local nonprofits. In addition to youth groups, Spartanburg’s own Mayor Jerome Rice will be exhibiting his skills on the court!

We are happy to share that Grants Committee member, Judah McJimpsey will be pursuing his academic and athletic career at Howard University.
A member of the 2022 Spartanburg High School graduating class, Judah’s best attributes include a strong work ethic, dedication to achievement, and an optimistic attitude. He desires to help those who struggle mentally and emotionally by becoming a leader in the field of mental health and wellness. A disciplined player who is adaptable and versatile, Judah is a servant leader who excels on and off the field. Congratulations Judah.
U.S. Presidential Scholar and National Merit Scholar Award Recipient – Maxwell Booker
Congratulations to Grants Committee Vice Chair Maxwell Booker on being named a 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholar! Established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of the United States’ most distinguished graduating high school seniors, Booker is one of 161 students recognized in 2022.
The first African-American to earn this prestigious honor at Spartanburg High School, Booker is a National Merit Scholar, as well as the Heisman High School Recipient at his high school.
Accepted to several prestigious schools, including all of the six Ivy Leagues he applied to, Booker received over one million dollars in institutional and merit scholarships.

A 5-foot-6 setter from J.L. Mann High School, Charity intends to major in business management.

Congratulations to Kicks 4 Cancer and Ball4Good players John Rhoden, Raegan Cash, Kaif Surka, Serge Nkoth, and Julio Mora. These 5 youth volunteers will be playing soccer at the college level beginning fall, 2022.
Ball4Good is a nonprofit organization that supports communities and nonprofits through sports. The Celebrity Basketball Games is an annual fundraising event that brings the Spartanburg County community together for a fun afternoon of sports, philanthropy, and entertainment. A local nonprofit will receive up to $10,000 of proceeds raised from Ball4Good to support direct services. Additionally, three nonprofits will receive a $1,000 grant towards direct services. The games are scheduled for July, 2022.

Priority will be given directly to organizations that can clearly demonstrate how the project will benefit the residents of Spartanburg County.
Applicants may submit the following:
● One page proposal describing the project for which you are requesting funds ● An outline and timeline of how the funds will be used ● Proof of 501 (c) (3) – IRS determination letter ● Form 990
Eligibility
Organizations must operate in Spartanburg County and should provide services that impact children in one of the following areas: ● At-risk Youth ● Education ● Family Services ● Health Services ● Homelessness ● Poverty ● Social Justice
The Ball4Good Celebrity Basketball Games will not provide funding for : ● Annual fund campaigns ● Annual operating support other than for start-up purposes
Note: Organizations that have received $5,000 or higher from Ball4Good during the past two years are not eligible to apply.
Process Applications will be reviewed by a Grants Committee representative of students who reside in Spartanburg County. Students across the county will vote for the final recipient.
The blue team was on a roll. The goals kept coming. Upward Star Center and Dorman JV Coach – Charles Blue dived to his left to avoid being scored on. The teams were ready for a serious game.
Serge Nkoth and Michael Bayiha of Dorman High School were dynamic.
Serge was the star on the field.
Hill Mitchell and Kaif Surka of Spartanburg Day School defended the ball, but their Varsity teammate Adom Appiah had switched on them. He had been recruited by the blue team.
Varsity basketball player, Patrick Bonna of Charlotte based Crossovers for Christ was glad to be back on the soccer field.
Spartanburg Day’s Coach Graham Brewer was on fire. Although his team lost, he ended the game with a beautiful penalty kick.
A great afternoon to support 4 area nonprofits. The Ball4Good soccer game was a fun recreational afternoon for a good cause. Volunteers cheered as their favorite players run with the ball. The afternoon was a success.
Together, the team raised $7,500 for the nonprofits.
Members of the Ball4Good Grants Committee presented the checks to the nonprofits. The nonprofits had the opportunity to share their mission with the players.
