Booker Named U.S. Presidential and National Merit Scholar
U.S. Presidential Scholar and National Merit Scholar Award Recipient – Maxwell Booker

Congratulations to Grants Committee Vice Chair Maxwell Booker on being named a 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholar! Established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of the United States’ most distinguished graduating high school seniors, Booker is one of 161 students recognized in 2022.

The first African-American to earn this prestigious honor at Spartanburg High School, Booker is a National Merit Scholar, as well as the Heisman High School Recipient at his high school.

Accepted to several prestigious schools, including all of the six Ivy Leagues he applied to, Booker received over one million dollars in institutional and merit scholarships.

He will be attending Harvard University in the fall of 2022.

3 Ball4Good Volunteers Receive  Watson-Brown Scholarship

Congratulations to Ball4Good Grants Committee Chair Karine Nguyen, Grants Committee member Emily Grace Cobourn, and volunteer Florian Sloan on receiving the prestigious Watson-Brown Scholarship.

BALL4GOOD AWARDS GRANT TO HALTER IN SUPPORT OF MBK ALLIANCE

We are happy to sponsor the HALTER’s Aiming High BALL4Good Camp during the summer of 2021. The Ball4Good grant will help HALTER strengthen its relationship with My Brother’s Keeper (MBK). Funds will provide scholarships for children in the 6th, 7th or 8th grades. The scholarship recipients will be identified by MBK and/or a McKinney-Vento school Social Worker.

HALTER and MBK Alliance will find ways to work together to actualize the shared belief that every young person deserves equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity, regardless of circumstance.

The Aim High Ball4Good Camp activities will include discussions addressing inequity, social justice, promoting emotional intelligence and developing pro-social skills (SEL) in ways that are highly relevant to the participating youth.

Activities will focus on interpreting nonverbal behavior, good communication,
developing trust and respect.

HALTER, (Healing and Learning Through Equine Relationships) is a nonprofit in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Founded in 1987, the organization is a member of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International. HALTER’s services primarily focuses on people with physical and/or cognitive delays.

We are currently accepting proposals for the 2021 Annual Grants.

Ball4Good is excited to announce that we will be hosting several virtual events to raise money for local nonprofits that support children. This summer, 4 local nonprofits will receive grants to support direct services. The fundraising events will include live streaming virtual games, interviewing former Ball4Good players and DJing for fans. The fundraising effort will bring communities together for fun and inspirational content. Applications are due by 11:59PM EST on February 28th, 2021.

Ball4Good Names 5 Nonprofits to Receive Grants

The Ball4Good Grants Committee has named 5 nonprofits to receive $1,000 grants from the Spring Grant Cycle.
The organizations are:
YMCA: The YMCA’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice
through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
Clemson University Tiger Alliance: Seeks to increase educational
opportunities and upward economic mobility for underrepresented youth in the Upstate of South Carolina.
Mental Fitness: Leads professional development training for school professionals and educators on relevant mental health topics such as suicide prevention, stress management and managing serious mental illness in schools.
Citizen Scholars: Provides disadvantaged youth, through mentoring and program support, with the life skills, knowledge, and character development needed to obtain college scholarships, complete college, and become contributing citizens.
South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind: A statewide leader in education and accessibility for individuals who are deaf, blind, or sensory multi-disabled.
The committee reviewed grant applications from late December through February. Schools were unable to vote on one beneficiary because of the pandemic. Therefore all five organizations will be receiving a minimum grant of $1,000.
The named organizations would have been finalists / beneficiary of the April Celebrity Basketball Games which was slated for April 19th, 2020. However, the games were cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In order to raise funds for the organizations and children impacted by the pandemic, a group of Ball4Good teenage volunteers, launched a GoFundMe on April 15th, 2020.
Ball4Good will continue with the GoFundMe fundraiser through May 2020. The goal of the organization is to raise additional funds to benefit children impacted by COVID-19.

Join Ball4Good for Music4Good on Sunday 4/19

Please join us for Music4Good from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday 4/19. We will be live on our host’s Facebook and Instagram pages. We will also be providing updates on the Ball4Good Instagram Facebook and Twitter pages. Ball4Good Launches Music4Good Fundraiser to Benefit Families and Kids Impacted by COVID-19

We are student athletes raising funds for Ball4Good, an organization that supports communities through sports.  On Sunday, April 19th, we will have our first DJ/dance live session from 4:00pm -6:00pm on Facebook and Instagram on behalf of Ball4Good. The event is Music4Good by Ball4Good. We plan on hosting additional sessions for our viewers during this period of social distancing. The goal is to raise money for children impacted by COVID-19.

Since 2017, Ball4Good has supported 19+ organizations. including the local Boys & Girls Clubs of the Upstate; Miracle Hill Ministries, which serves homeless children and adults in South Carolina; the Project Hope Foundation, which provides services for individuals of all ages with autism; the Children’s Advocacy Center of Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union, which helps children who have been abused and the Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas.

This year, Ball4Good was planning its 4th annual Celebrity Basketball game with a goal to raise funds to support children enrolled at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind, Citizen Scholars, Clemson University Tiger Alliance, the YMCA and Mental Fitness.
These organizations were chosen by 11 of our peers who serve on the Ball4Good Grants Committee and voted upon by students from Spartanburg County.

In addition to supporting these organizations with $1,000 each to support the children in their programs, Ball4Good is committed to raising additional funds to help children and families who have been adversely impacted by loss of jobs, homelessness, sickness and more.

The Ball4Good Grants Committee is excited to announce that four nonprofits have been selected as finalists for the Basketball Celebrity Game funds. The committee reviewed grant applications from late December through early February. Past recipients of the Celebrity Game grants are:
